LET’S be honest, vaginas and lasers aren’t concepts you would think go hand-in-hand.
Think again.
Vaginal rejuvenation – a cosmetic vaginal tightening surgery procedure – is now a blooming business in Australia.
The popular procedure successfully treats three common issues woman may encounter during their lifetime: laxity of the vagina, urinary incontinence and dryness of the vagina. Although these symptoms are extremely common, they are notably under-reported by women.
Age, pregnancy and childbirth, certain illnesses, skin conditions and medication are all contributing factors that can lead to these issues. Thankfully vaginal rejuvenation has undergone significant technological advancements over the past few years, allowing these problems to be treated.
Laser (Juliet) and radio frequency (thermiVa) treatments for vaginal rejuvenation are two of the latest technological advancements. Enrich Clinic in Melbourne is the first in Australia to offer both as a combined treatment package for increased effectiveness and results.
“There is now more discussion and awareness of the unpleasant and uncomfortable symptoms women can suffer and more inclination to seek treatment to improve these symptoms” Dr Sandy Fieldhouse from Enrich Clinic told news.com.au.
Up to 55 per cent of premenopausal women and up to 80 per cent of post-menopausal women describe some degree of urinary incontinence, with dryness in the vagina effecting up to 40 per cent of postmenopausal women.
Studies have shown that treating urinary incontinence and vaginal relaxation effects on women, drastically improves their sense of well-being.
“The Enrich Intimate Program is designed to tighten the vagina and urinary canals and improve urinary continence, vaginal laxity and moistens the lining of the vagina, improving concerns of dryness,” Dr Fieldhouse states.
While this all sounds quite daunting, it’s a quick walk-in-walk-out procedure, taking approximately 30-45 minutes.
“The internal treatment is comparable to having a PAP smear and is typically very well tolerated. Local anaesthetic is used for the external areas to decrease discomfort and treatment here is often described as similar to laser hair removal” says Dr Fieldhouse.
Normal activities can be resumed immediately after and side effects are rare.
The external genital area can also be targeted in treatment, with tightening achieved here as well. The surgical vaginal rejuvenation procedures available at ENRICH are Labiaplasty, Clitoral Hood Reduction and Hymenoplasty (Hymen repair).
When thinking about vaginal rejuvenation, the term “designer vagina” often comes to mind, but that’s not the focus at Enrich.
“There is absolutely no ideal vagina. All are unique in shape, size and other commonly experienced variables. The Intimate Program is not about creating a more ‘ideal’ vagina, but is focused on addressing common, debilitating symptoms that women may previously have been embarrassed or reluctant to admit suffering from,” Dr Fieldhouse said.
A common question asked is ‘Does vaginal rejuvenation improve your sex life?’ The answer is yes.
“Women and their partners often report improved sexual satisfaction after undergoing the Intimate Program because of a combined effect of tightening and enhanced lubrication. Some women also describe stronger, prolonged orgasms. Women also report more confidence and less pain, further enhancing the sexual experience”.
