10 Dating trends you need to know for 2020

We are nearing the end of the year and there’s no better time to prepare for next year than now. Most of us are well versed with dating terms like ghosting, stashing or catfishing. However, there are a whole lot of new dating terms daters need to know for 2020.

If you want to know what to look out for on the dating scene in 2020, including what to avoid. You need to read POF ‘s new dating trends list for the upcoming year they unveiled to the MailOnline, from ‘Yellow Carding’ to ‘White Clawing’. Here are 10 new dating terms you’ll be seeing in 2020 dating scene. Following are the 10 dating trends you need to know for 2020.

1.“White Clawing”

Is the act of staying with someone you find basic and boring just because you find them attractive.

2.“Yellow Carding”

Have you ever called someone for their bad behaviour or dating etiquette? This is called “yellow-carding” just like in a soccer game a player is cautioned or given a yellow card as a warning.

3.“Type-casting”

If you are someone who chooses someone to date based only on their personality type, love languages, or horoscope sign then you are guilty of ‘type-casting’.

4.“Dial toning”

It’s very similar to ghosting, where someone gives you their number, then ignores every text, call you ever send them. When you dial-tone someone, you give them your phone number, but you never reply.

5.“Cause-playing”

Where a casual relationship ends, but the person circles back to ask you a favour, like using a good cause like a charity or GofundMe link to get back in touch. A really annoying thing to do.

6.“Eclipsing”

Where you take on the interests and hobbies of the person you’re dating and pretend you’ve always liked them too.

7.“Glamboozed”

Getting all made up to go out on a date only to be cancelled on or stood up at the last minute. If you’ve glammed up only to be cancelled on at the last minute, you’ve been ‘glamboozled’.

8.“Kanye’d”

When your date spends the whole time talking about themselves. If that happens you got Kanye’d.

9. “Fleabagging”

This dating term is for anyone who consistently pics the wrong person.

10. “Falshpanning”

When trouble arises in a relationship a flashpanner will jump ship as things get tough.

There’s a brand new dating term abound and it sucks just as much as ghosting. ‘Stashing’ another disturbing dating trend.

What is stashing?

Stashing is when the person you’re dating fails to introduce you to anyone in their lives, keeping you a secret or hiding you.

One day, it sneaks up on you and you slowly come to realise you have been stashed. You’ve been dating for months and all seems fine, except for a small detail. You have slowly noticed that you haven’t met your partner’s family, best mates or any single significant person in their life.

What is the problem with being stashed?

This trend is something that is happening to people all over the world who are dating. What is the problem with being stashed? When you are a victim of stashing, you are hidden from every other part of the slasher’s life. Allowing them to be unconsidered and awful. When you are not publicly and officially together, the stashed is able to tell themselves that you are not actually together, so they are entitled to treat you poorly.

Problem with being stashed is that everything appears to be lovely when you are together but it’s only as long as you don’t exist outside the bedroom.

How do you stop this?

If you allow this to go on, you will start to feel bad about yourself and your relationship. Not feeling valued and respected in a relationship is not worth. Time to get out. Leave before this relationship leaves you feeling worthless. Find someone who is happy and proud to be with you by letting everyone know who you are.

“Orbiting” is another dating trend to worry about, it might be even worse than ghosting. Orbiting refers to when you get ghosted by someone, yet they continue to watch your stories. They’re still in your ‘orbit’ — not close enough to make sustained and meaningful contact with, but constantly there.

How do you ask? They are looking at you via your social media.

The term – Orbiting – was coined by Man Repeller’s Anna Iovine, who experienced orbiting firsthand. She had connected with a guy on all her social media platforms after they went on a first date. After their second date, the guy stopped responding to her texts. However, he oddly, still watched all of her Instagram Stories, thus keeping Iovine “in his orbit,” as her friend eloquently put it.

Like ghosting, orbiting requires one person in a relationship to inexplicably cut ties and just disappear off the face of the planet (so to speak). The difference is that this person doesn’t go off the grid; instead, they will ghost you and then occasionally pop back into your life usually via social media.

Orbiting is a dating trend that could only occur in the age of social media.

There are several explanations that might explain why people orbit, according to Iovine. It could be a power move, it might be a sign of FOMO (fear of missing out) or an attempt at trying to keep options open.

The dating scene sadly has become quite complicated since the advent of social media. To ensure you are not messing with people’s mental state, just break things off when you are not feeling it. Most important make it clear as daylight and then stay away from their social media accounts.

Social media is certainly not going to paint a better picture of the person you just met. If things didn’t jell in-person social media is going to confuse you and trick you into believing something else. Be an adult and move on and let others move on too and create the opportunity for something new to happen.

If you are a victim of orbiting, just block them from your social media.

It’s just totally not cool to just disappear and then engage in creepy-behaviour.
