A romantic comedy that will tickle both men and women alike, Run Fatboy Run delivers enough laughs and cutesy moments to make this a perfect way to spend a Friday night out at the movies. Directed by David Schwimmer (he was the dude that played Ross on TV show Friends), it’s laughs all the way with a stellar British cast including Simon Pegg who delivers the comedic moments superbly.
Five years ago, Dennis Doyle (Pegg) ran out on his pregnant girlfriend Libby (Thandie Newton) on their wedding day. His life hasn’t improved since and he’s now an overweight security guard working at women’s lingerie store. While he realises that ditching Libby was probably the worst decision of his life he hasn’t done much to win her back since.
That is until Libby begins dating high-flying American Whit (Hank Azaria). When Dennis finds out that Whit is running the Nike marathon he sets out to prove himself in the same race with the hope of ultimately winning Libby’s heart again.
Motivated by his two “coaches”, Gordon (Dylan Moran) and Mr. Goshdashtidar (Harish Patel), Dennis has to overcome many challenges along the way and that means plenty of awkward moments providing comedic relief. Fans of TV show Little Britain will get a kick out of seeing David Williams in a cameo role too.
While this film is tagged as a romantic comedy it doesn’t have that sickly cheesy element that is so common with films of the same genre. It is definitely worth the entry price and will keep you smiling long after the credits have rolled out.
