A burglar picked the wrong house to target and ended up facing off against a large dog and an armed, naked elderly man in the American town of Lake Worth recently.
The burglar, who identified himself as 26-year-old Jose Pasqual, climbed over a backyard fence early Saturday morning only to come face-to-face with Rettt the dog, a Rottweiler/Doberman pinscher mix. The dog charged and tore the shirt from Pasqual’s back.
The attack gave 91-year-old homeowner Robert E. Thompson a chance to jump out of bed, grab his gun and call the police. Then he headed outdoors and aimed his .38-caliber revolver, loaded with hollow-point bullets, at the intruder.
The intruder wasn’t the only one missing a shirt; it turns out Thompson didn’t take the time to dress before confronting the would-be burglar!
Thompson is a World War II veteran who was awarded a Purple Heart during combat tours in Europe.
“The funny part was I didn’t have any clothes on,” Thompson told The Palm Beach Post. “I was standing out there with a .38 in my hand, and I was stark naked.”
Terrified of the dog, the burglar took a step toward the nude 91-year-old, and that was it for Thompson. He says he fired a warning shot. And so began a face-off: the naked old homeowner with his revolver trained on the frightened would-be burglar.
When Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputies showed up, deputies told Thompson to drop the gun. It accidentally went off and the bullet fragment ricocheted off the pool desk and into Thompson’s right shin.
Deputies called paramedics and insisted he get checked out at Delray Medical Center. Thompson was back home by midday.
The burglar was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on a burglary charge.
