Whether you’re a devout fan from way back or just vaguely familiar with the infectious rhythms that may have subliminally entered your head through television ads, Groove Armada’s greatest hits compilation is a must have on your playlist this summer.
Coinciding with their 10th anniversary together, this omnibus of hits by Armada’s Tom Findlay and Andy Cato will satisfy all musical taste buds. From the Fatboy Slim flavoured version of I See You Baby to the Grammy nominated, super cool Superstylin’, you’re guaranteed to find something that’ll get your party guests’ collective asses shaking.
Not all fourteen tracks are going to send you running for the dance floor. The collection has some ‘kick-back and relax’ tunes for when your party atmosphere calls for some Cafe Del Mar like moments of chill. Given that, you can forgive the album for having some slow moments in Purple Haze and Lightsonic. You can easily play this disc twice in a row without guests leaving your pad in disgust and boredom.
While Armada’s always welcomed a steady flow of musical collaborators, it would have been good to have the original version of I See You Baby, just for that infamous, cheeky bass line which sadly got stripped and rehashed as trip-hop. Still, the album as a whole is a testament to Groove Armada’s long-term appeal and you appreciate how they remain one of the most consistently innovative British dance acts today.
