It has taken more than three years to come together, but now the town of Bundaberg in south-east Queensland is claiming a world record for the longest chain of bras.
More than 166,000 bras, measuring 163 kilometres, were laid out at the town’s showgrounds yesterday.
It is 51 kilometres longer than the 2006 record in Cyprus.
Breast cancer fundraiser Rob Bauer says some of the bras will be delivered to Third World countries.
“I’ve also donated 20-odd-thousand to the Afghan Women’s Association to go to Afghanistan to one of refuges there,” he said.
Mr Bauer says it is about raising awareness.
“What I set out to do was not only break the record and raise money, but I wanted people to be aware of breast cancer,” he said.
“I wanted women and men to take it on board to either self test or go to the doctors and be tested.
“If we save one person by doing what we’ve done we’ve achieved something.”
