Well, it’s that time of year. The stockings are out, everybody’s rushing around getting ready and there’s a lot of love in the air. The layman might think we’re talking about Christmas… but no, we’re talking PoleCandy, baby!

It’s on again, the PoleCandy Xmas Xtravaganza is ready to rock Sydney this weekend and we here at Camp RedHotPie simple cannot wait.

Run by the uber-sexy and supremely talented Miss Suzie Q, PoleCandy is an event like no other. It’s the crème de la crème of pole events on the annual calendar and the Christmas bash is going to be the biggest, sexiest and most awe inspiring show of the year.

We took a few minutes to catch up with Suzie and get the run down on what is quickly becoming a massive hit among both aficionados of the pole and the general public alike.

Hi Suzie, so tell us a bit about PoleCandy.

Well, PoleCandy is an very sexy event. Currently we run two PoleCandy shows per year. An amateur pole dancing competition in April and our “Xmas Xtraveganza” , held in December.

And who’s behind PoleCandy?

PoleCandy is put on by Suzie Q Pole Studio (the largest pole dancing school in Sydney’s West) in conjunction with our wonderful friends at RedHotPie.

What’s the theme for the next show, what can punters expect?

This year our Xmas event has the theme “1920’s Glamour and Gloss”. There should be some pretty awesome outfits (fishnets, feathers, flappers and gangsters). We give prizes to “Best Dressed” – so most people tend to put a fair bit of effort into their outfits.

The audience can expect some pretty stellar shows. We have performances from Miss Burlesque NSW, Miss Pin Up VIC, Asia Pacific Pole Champions, International Pole Champions, pole students from most of Sydney’s pole schools and we even have guest artists down from QLD – including Miss Pole Dance QLD as well as a few special surprise guests.

So what sort of people are you getting to the shows?

PoleCandy is predominately but not exclusively aimed at pole dancers and people who are “pole dancer friendly”… So anyone who pole dances, or likes pole dancers is welcome!

How is the popularity of Pole Dancing coming into 2011?

Pole Dancing is growing so much: as a sport, an art form and as a viable exercise alternative. IT will be really exciting to see what happens with the bid to get the sport into the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

Will Pole Dancing always be a predominately female activity?

Pole dancing is not just for girls! It is growing in popularity amongst men as well – the ability to hold yourself out sideways on a street sign never fails to impress.

Have you got guys in your class?

We do offer Mens classes. And we have some pretty incredible male pole dancers performing at PoleCandy this year: Dunk-One, who just won the title of “Ultimate Pole Champion” at the International Pole Dance Champonships (held in Tokyo last week) as well as Chris M – who won the Men’s Pole Fit title in the same competition – Aussie pole dancers are rocking it overseas!!

And how’s your own Pole Dancing going?

I have just won the “Open Pairs” title in the Asia Pacific Pole Dance Championships (along with my partner Toby J). So pretty good! I’m really enjoying doing double pole, and there aren’t many male/female pairs out there – so the opportunity to create new tricks and styles is pretty limitless.

Where has Pole dancing taken you?

Most recently to the Gold Coast for “Pole-ies Week” (100 pole dancers from around Australia descended on Surfers Paradise for the inaugural Australian Summer Pole Camp) – we got to teach the girls acro on Main Beach – which was pretty awesome and got some great media coverage. Next winter we are heading to Europe and the UK for a three month teaching tour – hopefully bringing some Aussie flavour to the European schools.

PoleCandy will be held at the Albion Hotel (135 George St Parramatta) from 6pm on Sunday December 19. Tickets are $35 and are available on 9687 6663 or info@suzieqpolestudio.com.au
