A naked woman who tried to climb down a cliff to a popular nudist beach in California has been rescued after getting stuck half-way down the 137m drop.

The unnamed 27-year-old woman had disrobed near a hiking trail and thrown her clothes over the cliff before trying to climb down to Black’s Beach, a popular clothing-optional location near San Diego, on Tuesday afternoon, the Daily Mail reports.

But the woman found herself stranded on a ledge on the way down, unable to climb up or down.

After 15 minutes the woman was noticed by a passerby, who contacted emergency services.

A female lifeguard managed to abseil down to rescue the woman, strapping her into a harness before providing her with some borrowed clothing.

The woman was unharmed aside from scraped knees.

She was cited by park rangers for entering a restricted part of the state park but will not be charged for the rescue.
